Sunday, September 20, opening day of the Liguria Promozione league, Group B. At Stadio Roberto Piombo in Cicagna, Calvarese 1923 beat Bogliasco 1-0 on a penalty by Mosto in the 18th minute of the first half. On the field, wearing Calvarese’s No. 8 jersey, was David Loza: it was his debut in a FIGC league, the first by a YWC Future player this season.
From Preseason to League Play
David arrived in Genoa on August 5 with the YWC Future 2026-27 group. After two weeks of preseason with the YWC staff and a trial period with the club came his registration with Calvarese and now his first official match, in a Promozione league that is a real step up for an American player: real games, adult opponents, standings that count.
Why the Debut Matters
League play with a FIGC club is the heart of the YWC Future year. The morning sessions with the YWC staff are designed to prepare the players for exactly this: minutes on the field in a federation competition, to add to the profile American coaches will read in the coming months.
